Remembering Fred Imus
Please share your thoughts and memories of Fred Imus, who passed away August 6 at the age of 69
I keep reading all the beautiful condolences that people are writing about how much a part of their lives were effected by listening to him over the years.
The Imus Ranch Foundation was formed to donate 100% of all donations previously devoted to The Imus Ranch for Kids with Cancer to various other charities whose work and missions compliment those of the ranch. The initial donation from The Imus Ranch Foundation was awarded to Tackle Kids Cancer, a program of The HackensackUMC Foundation and the New York Giants.

Children’s Health Defense joins parents of vaccine-injured children and advocates for health freedom in remembering the life of Don Imus, a media maverick in taking on uncomfortable topics that most in the mainstream press avoid or shut down altogether. His commitment to airing all sides of controversial issues became apparent to the autism community in 2005 and 2006 as the Combating Autism Act (CAA) was being discussed in Congress. The Act, which was ultimately signed into law by George W. Bush in December of 2006, created unprecedented friction among parents of vaccine-injured children and members of Congress; parents insisted that part of the bill’s billion-dollar funding be directed towards environmental causes of autism including vaccines, while most U.S. Senators and Representatives tried to sweep any such connections under the rug.
Don Imus, Divisive Radio Shock Jock Pioneer, Dead at 79 - Imus in the Morning host earned legions of fans with boundary-pushing humor, though multiple accusations of racism and sexism followed him throughout his career By Kory Grow RollingStone
Don Imus Leaves a Trail of Way More Than Dust
By Michael Riedel - The one and only time I had a twinge of nerves before appearing on television was when I made my debut in 2011 on “Imus in the Morning” on the Fox Business Channel. I’d been listening to Don Imus, who died Friday at 79, since the 1990s as an antidote the serious (bordering on the pompous) hosts on National Public Radio. I always thought it would be fun to join Imus and his gang — news anchor Charles McCord, producer Bernard McGuirk, comedian Rob Bartlett — in the studio, flinging insults back and forth at one another. And now I had my chance. I was invited on to discuss to discuss “Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark,” the catastrophic Broadway musical that injured cast members daily.

Imus, you masterfully made it possible for us to know your brother without ever meeting. What a gift! Like everyone else, I loved the brotherly bantering and the witty stories Fred would spin. (My favorite is the one where Fred was trying to catch a mouse in his trailer with traps. Unfortuantely he gave the mouse a name.) I was thrilled when I found him on Outlaw Country because of you. About a week ago you were talking about Fred and how you were just overwhelmed by the outpouring of wishes from your radio/TV audience. In passing you made a comment about not being very religious. I just want you to know that it does not matter at all if you are or aren't. The only rule in this world is the rule of love for one another. You not only live by that every day but you exhibited that with Fred in every sequence.
You have kept me laughing, even when I thought I couldn't, ever since you came to the New York area.
Louise
We are truly saddened to no longer being able to hear your brother Fred on the radio. Wasn't a time when I heard him on your show, that I didn't laugh.
With all the "crud" that passes as news, Fred was fresh air. Jim Valvano used to say you need to laugh. We did when Fred was on the air. Thanks for being a good brother
I wonder what he'll come back as in his next life, hope it is not like his first ex wife!
Fred, we'll miss you and we loved you.
Don:
I was very saddened ny Fred's passing.
I have watched your show for years and love most aspects of your show. You seem to be a very good man, deep down, and you try to mask that with your sarcasm.
I loved when Fred was on your show. His funniest line, in my opinion, was the one when he spoke about internet dating and said that most of the women he met online had
butts as big as his quarter horses.
Take care of your self and may God bless you and your family.
I use to call his company to order the chip dip and salsa for a couple years. I sent it to so many of my customers. I remember from time to time hearing his voice in the back ground and was rather excited. I remember once they were going to put him on the phone to me but I was too embarassed.... I wasnt sure what to say to the legend!
God Speed!
He was always interesting. I loved his down to earth stories and would hate it when work would interfere with my being able to listen. I remember him to be an animal lover and how he shared his devastation over the death of his dog. I could relate.
My heartfelt thanks for all of the years of laughs.
GOD BLESS YOU FRED.
YOU WERE A TREASURE TO ALL WHO LISTENED TO YOU AND YOUR GREAT BROTHER.
YOU WILL BE MISSED , BUT NOT FORGOTTEN.
LIKE YOU , I LISTENED TO THE PRESIDENT'S STATE OF THE UNION SPEECH UNTIL IT BECAME CLEAR THAT HE WAS NOT GOING TO RESIGN.
THAT WAS SO FUNNY.
FRED , ONLY YOU COULD HAVE DELIVERED THAT LINE.
IT, LIKE YOU, WAS PRICELESS.
PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT WE NEED TO KEEP YOUR BROTHER DON WITH US FOR A WHILE LONGER.
AMERICA NEEDS HIM.
BUT YOU ARE IN GREAT COMPANY.
IF YOU SEE ELVIS, PLEASE TELL HIM HELLO AND THAT WE MISS HIM.
ALSO, MICHELLE BACHMAN WISHES HIM HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
GOD BLESS YOU DON IMUS AND FAMILY.
I'M SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS.
Please don't remove this "Remembering Fred Imus" for at least a couple more weeks; haven't had time to read them all. I am selfish: what will I do on Saturday mornings without Fred's Trailer Park Bash? When Fred quit smoking 2 years ago last December I thought "Good -- now he'll live much longer!" So glad that Don & Dierdre gave Fred the new truck and trailer last Christmas. Sorry for the loss of Fred to everyone who knew him, whether in person or on the radio.
I was so struck and saddend learning of Fred's passing. I started listening to you when I was 14 yrs old! I am now 55 and can't help but to practically, ridiculously feel that you and Fred were part of my extended family. It really hurt... I can only imagine that you are wishing I would just SHUT UP right now - My deepest condolences to you and your family -
I was away the week Fred passed and learned just today that he is gone. My sincere condolences go to the Imus family. Fred was somewhat of a simple man"s Aristotle. Rest in Peace Mr. Imus.
I enjoyed Fred and your special bond with him. You could tell that what ever you both had gone through that you really cared for each other, and I never got tired of you both telling each other you loved each other.Sorry for your loss Don. Sixty nine is to young.
I called the auto body express for my mug and coffee in the mid-1990's and Fred answered the phone. I told him how much I enjoyed he and Don on the radio, he thanked me for the compliment; his demeanor on the phone struck me as geniune and sincere--the same guy you heard on the radio. I loved listening to his observations on Don's show and the way he and his brother interacted, and I particularly enjoyed how they ended each call. Cavuto's eulogy to Fred captured well the brothers' interaction. RIP Fred, we will miss you.
Dear Don -
Let me say first of all that I am so sorry for your loss. Growing up, I listened to you and Fred on your show, and always got a good laugh. To put this in perspective, I go back with you to WNBC. You are the reason I got into radio to begin with, and when I can, I still listen to your show.
I now am the GM of WVTK radio in Middlebury, Vermont. I also host the only morning radio show in the nation with a dog as a co-host. The show is "The Wake-Up Crew with Bruce Zeman and Hobbes." You can check us out at www.921wvtk.com.
This morning I was talking on my show about the influence you had on me, and how much your brother added to your show. I will miss hearing him..
Again, sorry for your loss.

Three things about Fred that I admired: 1) his quick wit and self effacing sense of humor; 2) he seemed to be a straight shooter - a quality I admire about Don as well; 3) ending each phone call on the air with Don by saying I love you. My condolences to the Imus family. Hang in there Don. Rest In Peace Fred.
I started listening to you when Wyatt was a baby. (how time flies!)
Your brother, Fred, was always able to get me to smile and laugh. The way he was able to cut through the bullcrap and speak plainly and honestly, is a testament to his intelligence and good nature. I keep playing the Neil Cavuto clip over and over again to hear Fred say how he only listened a minute and a half of the Obama speech when it was obvious he wasn't going to resign! I lost track of how many times I've listened to it! Fred still makes me laugh!!
God bless,
Ana
I have 5 siblings and they are all alive. I can't imagine your loss. I am sorry for your sorrow. My thoughts and prays for your family.
1I have been listening to the program since 1996 i Love the down to earth the humor I really loved Freds just plain spoken you can tell just from listening was a great person i Pray that God will help you through this and give you peace in your Heart i cant imagine losing someone that you Loved that much again i only knew Fred from your show but when he was on it was like he was in the same room talking to you so down to earth and i never once in my life heard him name drop to act like someone he was not he was just a rancher who i think just lived a great carefree life will greatly miss his call ins one other thing Love what you have done for kids with cancer and others i also am a recovering drug addict so if you ever want to just say hell with it that stuff they gave me when i got bucked off horse diladid i still have connections just kiddin Love you and your Family and your right it does not make it easier but your positive attitude toward how life is i believe will help Wyatt understand this is not a permanent deal Love the show
Don Imus, Love to you and all your Family, and all the great work you do for those kids.... Fred was so funny, and you two guys, well, we could just feel the love.... I especially cracked up when Megan, the ex-wives, and the trailer got into the picture. May God bless Fred, and keep him, and you all as well,
america,s last cowboy god bless
I always enjoyed it when Fred came on the air. His humor always made me laugh, and also just the way he spoke. I will miss his on air time. You two always said you loved each other. Bless you and your family Don. Take care. Steve Riley
I have watched you on TV for years and always enjoyed Fred, I will miss him.
Just wanted to say that I feel the loss of a friend, one I never met in person but one who was in every way a friend none the less; I always admired the fact that he didn't feel the need to fill "empty space" with meaningless blather, when he spoke you listened and you always thought, that this was a man who spoke his mind, no pretense, what you heard was the real thing and in today's world that made him stand out.
An accomplished songwriter, a man who spoke his mind without feeling the need to kiss up to anyone, and a successful life in that he overcame a hard life & did it all while he and his brother could still say "I love you" with others listening....if God himself told me tonight that I would pass on and that would be my legacy, well, I could live with that, and do so with a smile on my face.
Adios, to an old friend, hardly a forgotten one!
IMAN
We will ALL miss his sense of humor. You just knew; he was going to go right to the edge! And; beyond!
Take care! I would say; we love you! But; you know that just NOT TRUE!
Mary and Abby
P.S. Wouldn't it have been NICE; if Obama had RESIGNED; in memory of Fred?
Fred's death shocked & saddened me deeply because as a fan & daily watcher of your show, it was so obvious how much you two loved each other. You' re a lucky man for all the love you have in your life. Nothing else comes close to mattering. & by the way, it takes a lot to make me LOL at 7am but Fred.could do it every time.
Good Morning J. D.,
God bless and hold Fred. He was in a word..."family." I remember how the two of you concluded conversations, "I Love you"... much like Mr. Cavuto; Fred was the common sense and voice of every man...outside Manhattan of course. Even for colored men, like me, Fred, the real "Cowboy" in the family was authentic, kept it real. He will be missed by his immediate family but, he will be missed by those of us on the range who loved hearing that halting voice, soured by cigarettes and whiskey. Thank you for sharing your time with us old friend, those of us colored cowboys know you are a great and fine human being because your heart was pure and may God hold a keep you. Rest my friend..."My heroes have always been cowboys..." Be well JD, brother Fred is in heaven now gambling no doubt with Wayln, Hank Sr., shaking hands with Presidents and looking up Monroes skirt.
