Remembering Fred Imus
Please share your thoughts and memories of Fred Imus, who passed away August 6 at the age of 69
I keep reading all the beautiful condolences that people are writing about how much a part of their lives were effected by listening to him over the years.
The Imus Ranch Foundation was formed to donate 100% of all donations previously devoted to The Imus Ranch for Kids with Cancer to various other charities whose work and missions compliment those of the ranch. The initial donation from The Imus Ranch Foundation was awarded to Tackle Kids Cancer, a program of The HackensackUMC Foundation and the New York Giants.

Children’s Health Defense joins parents of vaccine-injured children and advocates for health freedom in remembering the life of Don Imus, a media maverick in taking on uncomfortable topics that most in the mainstream press avoid or shut down altogether. His commitment to airing all sides of controversial issues became apparent to the autism community in 2005 and 2006 as the Combating Autism Act (CAA) was being discussed in Congress. The Act, which was ultimately signed into law by George W. Bush in December of 2006, created unprecedented friction among parents of vaccine-injured children and members of Congress; parents insisted that part of the bill’s billion-dollar funding be directed towards environmental causes of autism including vaccines, while most U.S. Senators and Representatives tried to sweep any such connections under the rug.
Don Imus, Divisive Radio Shock Jock Pioneer, Dead at 79 - Imus in the Morning host earned legions of fans with boundary-pushing humor, though multiple accusations of racism and sexism followed him throughout his career By Kory Grow RollingStone
Don Imus Leaves a Trail of Way More Than Dust
By Michael Riedel - The one and only time I had a twinge of nerves before appearing on television was when I made my debut in 2011 on “Imus in the Morning” on the Fox Business Channel. I’d been listening to Don Imus, who died Friday at 79, since the 1990s as an antidote the serious (bordering on the pompous) hosts on National Public Radio. I always thought it would be fun to join Imus and his gang — news anchor Charles McCord, producer Bernard McGuirk, comedian Rob Bartlett — in the studio, flinging insults back and forth at one another. And now I had my chance. I was invited on to discuss to discuss “Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark,” the catastrophic Broadway musical that injured cast members daily.

It breaks my heart to hear of Fred's passing. RIP Fred, and my condolences to the Imus family.
The various stories about Fred are now legendary but there was one attributed to Fred in which one of the first “kids” to visit the ranch was having a tough time getting on the horse, rather than offer pity Fred turned the feed tub upside down and said “get on the damn horse” where upon the kid did and gained a tremendous boost to her self esteem Don said Fred was smarter than he let on that story speak volumes of his intelligence.
I just found out about Fred on your website. I watched as you talked some about him and shed some tears with you. He was unique and a man who could touch your heart. I know you love him, as did many others of us. In my way as a former soldier's chaplain, I honor Fred and you for serving this great nation. May God bless and comfort you. You cannot see me, but I am offering Fred a salute. For God and country. In Christ's love, Wayne
My sympathy on the untimely death of your brother, Fred. Always have enjoyed your show, learn a lot too. Fred was a great contributor and an American original, like you. Have much respect for you both. bets wishes and keep up the good work.
Dear Mr. Imus: my most sincere condolences to you and your family on the loss of this great, unique, unforgettable man. Your and his banterings (how can ANYone lose two cantaloupes in his house?), his dry sense of humor, and the love you had for each other will never be forgotten. A very long time ago I was passing through El Paso and decided to look him up because I remembered your saying that he was always happy when someone stopped by to see him. We had a nice little chat in the office off his garage, and with the parting words "I gotta get back to work now" he gave me an Autobody Express coffe mug and retreated. Still have the mug, (as well as an old Autobody denim shirt), but it's been retired from daily coffee consumption. He is missed by all who knew him on and off the air. RIP, Fred.
I thought Kinky's commet about Fred being a nail that couldn't be pounded down was an apt description of Fred. I always enjoyed his segments on your program and will miss his unvarnished humor and observations. RIP
Fred was hilarious. People like Fred love to make people laugh because they love to give. That is the bottom line. RIP Fred...
Very sorry about the passing of your brother I can tell you had a lot of love for him may he rest RIP.....
Mr. Cavuto's tribute to Fred said it all. My deepest sympathy to you and your entire family, God bless, and RIP Fred.
Just wanted to say how much my family and I have enjoyed listening to you and your brother through the years. No matter how the conversation went you always ended by saying i love you. a great example you and he were. if more families were like your it would be a better world. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. A long time listener.
Some of the best times were when Fred had no material - Don would get irritated and Fred ... well, he'd just laugh.
The best thing was that you two brothers always said "I love you" when getting off the phone. A rare practice, and a good one.
All men are males.
Not all males are men.
Fred Imus was a man.
Who will be missed.
Goodbye old friend.

Don, I really enjoyed Fred when he was on your program. It just seemed like I knew him, unpretentious, just Fred. Your love for each other was so evident, and a joy to experience along with both of you. As time goes by you will see more and more of his unique spirit in the eyes of your animals, in a song on the radio, or feel his hand on your arm when you need it. God bless and keep you.
Family and Guys at the show, so sorry for you. Really enjoyed Fred's appearance's. I'll pray for you.
I remember the incident where Fred fired his cleaning lady, because she didn't pick up a dead cricket under Fred's couch. For several weeks, he would keep checking the almost hidden place for the cricket. Very funny. I will miss him.
My heart has gone out to you and your family as you deal daily with the loss of Fred. I am not sure you ever get over the loss of someone so close to your heart. And now, with the loss of Brody Beaver, your family has been dealing with another tragic loss. May God be with you, your family and Joe and Jenna Beaver as you continue to deal with the loss of Fred and Brody.
As I grow older with each day the people that touched my life are one by one missing from my daily routine. Fred and Don were part of my life for so long it's how I started each day. To all of Fred's family and friends my condolences. Fred RIP until we meet again. Maybe you find your cantaloupes.
I-Man and Family - Terribly saddened over Fred's passing. I first started listening to Imus in the Morning on The Fan when I lived in Connecticut in 1990-91 and one of my favorites parts of each day's commute was listening to Fred opine. He always cut to the chase and did not suffer fools gladly. He knew BS when he saw it and made sure we knew it! May he rest in peace. My heartfelt sympathies to the I-man, Deirdre and Wyatt for your loss.
Like millions of other people, would love to meet Dierdre, Wyatt and you. Hang in there, friend!
Loved Fred, been listening to you and your brother for years, only two brothers can have that kind of relationship, that kind of history and love. I live in Texas in the hometown of Joe Beaver, his Mom, Bonnie still lives here, I know that your family is devistated by the loss of Brody Beaver last week. I hurt for Wyatt especially because he is such a caring special young man. You and Deidre have done such a wonderful job in raising him, and when you left the air the day the calf died I found a whole new respect for you as a man and a father. You and your entire family are exceptional people always giving back and helping those that are hurting and making a difference. I will pray for your family while grieving for Fred but you know as well as I do that he is in Heaven with Brody having a hell of a good time!!! One day we will all see them again.
Dearest Fred-thanks for all the laughs and all the tears-we will miss you and your interesting look at life-May you rest in pease and may God bless you-The White family-NH
Dear Don,
Some time in the mid-1980s, a New York ecdysiast named Sintanta insisted that I read God's Other Son. Hysterical. A decade later, I stumbled upon your radio show and that is how I learned about you and your family and came to love each of you. That is why - nearly a month later - all of you remain on my mind. You shared your love for Fred with all of us and that will always be a special treasure. Love shared is love multiplied and the two of you did it up right.
A guest with a funny sense of humor and lots of laughs on Imus in the Morning. Fred Imus will be missed and my sympathy to the Imus family.
Wow, Fred would've dug this: http://aol.sportingnews.com/nascar/story/2011-09-02/drivers-cite-long-standing-conflicts-as-reasons-for-declining-obama-invitation
Just returned to the US following military service.
So sorry to learn of Fred's passing. I was moved by your comments and obvious grief. We mourn when a loved one passes, but it is for ourselves.
Fred is in a better place, surrounded by his son, Four Legged Fred, Phyllis, and Dear John.
We will miss him.
