Remembering Fred Imus
Please share your thoughts and memories of Fred Imus, who passed away August 6 at the age of 69
I keep reading all the beautiful condolences that people are writing about how much a part of their lives were effected by listening to him over the years.
The Imus Ranch Foundation was formed to donate 100% of all donations previously devoted to The Imus Ranch for Kids with Cancer to various other charities whose work and missions compliment those of the ranch. The initial donation from The Imus Ranch Foundation was awarded to Tackle Kids Cancer, a program of The HackensackUMC Foundation and the New York Giants.

Children’s Health Defense joins parents of vaccine-injured children and advocates for health freedom in remembering the life of Don Imus, a media maverick in taking on uncomfortable topics that most in the mainstream press avoid or shut down altogether. His commitment to airing all sides of controversial issues became apparent to the autism community in 2005 and 2006 as the Combating Autism Act (CAA) was being discussed in Congress. The Act, which was ultimately signed into law by George W. Bush in December of 2006, created unprecedented friction among parents of vaccine-injured children and members of Congress; parents insisted that part of the bill’s billion-dollar funding be directed towards environmental causes of autism including vaccines, while most U.S. Senators and Representatives tried to sweep any such connections under the rug.
Don Imus, Divisive Radio Shock Jock Pioneer, Dead at 79 - Imus in the Morning host earned legions of fans with boundary-pushing humor, though multiple accusations of racism and sexism followed him throughout his career By Kory Grow RollingStone
Don Imus Leaves a Trail of Way More Than Dust
By Michael Riedel - The one and only time I had a twinge of nerves before appearing on television was when I made my debut in 2011 on “Imus in the Morning” on the Fox Business Channel. I’d been listening to Don Imus, who died Friday at 79, since the 1990s as an antidote the serious (bordering on the pompous) hosts on National Public Radio. I always thought it would be fun to join Imus and his gang — news anchor Charles McCord, producer Bernard McGuirk, comedian Rob Bartlett — in the studio, flinging insults back and forth at one another. And now I had my chance. I was invited on to discuss to discuss “Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark,” the catastrophic Broadway musical that injured cast members daily.

I looked forward to Fred's appearances on the show. A down to earth guy who will surely be missed. Two Brothers Four Corners, RIP Fred... My condolences to the Imus Family..
Fred seemed more "comfortable in his skin" than most - a quality I admire in men. My prayers are with the Imus family.
Can't believe he's gone. I have my Autobody Express denim vest and still have the shopping bag. We took him a "CAT" hat. The world needs more "Freds".
Fred is not gone, he's right here in my heart. IMan, you and Fred are GREAT AMERICANS.
Fred was a very entertaining man. It's very sad to hear about the loss. Prayers to the I-MAN and family.
Imus Ranch Salsa. That's what you call it today, but you see, I've been with the I-Man from the git ( I'm an old guy ) and when it was first introduced it was known as "Fred's Hot Stuff." We had to find a Rattlesnake restuarant 40 miles from where we lived to buy a jar ( only hot was available ). The waitress apologetically told us it was $10.00 but I told her that it was " thick and chunky, not funky, won't slip off your chip, The whole family loved it and ever since we refer to it as " Fred's ".
" Ma, where's the Freds. I'm making tuna salad and I can't find the Freds. Ma we're having hot dogs and you forgot to take the Freds out of the refridgerator. Stop and Shop was out of the mild Freds so I bought two medium Freds. Mix some Freds in with the meat for the stuffed peppers."
We're all heartbroken over Fred's passing but like everyone else who's commented we know he's in a better place. Too bad it couldn't have been Andrea Mitchell instead. ( ONLY KIDDING, I THINK )
FRED IMUS==The Perfect Antidote to D.C.'s crop of Phonies. He helped to keep things in perspective. LOVED hearing him on the show, and he will be genuinely missed.
Hey Imus, I was so sorry to hear about Fred's sudden passing. I always related to your brotherly closeness. I also lost my brother(also my best friend) at 44 years old.. We spoke almost everyday. Three times a day when he developed stomach cancer and I wanted to make sure he was eating. My brother has been gone almost eleven years and it brought his memory more vividly to me when you two spoke. I loved the missing Wendy's salad that he ate days later and also the story of what I think how his first marriage ended. He said he walked into the kitchen while his wife was opening a can of Alpo and Fred asked her if she was fixin herself a little dinner. The can flew at his head and he walked out and never came back. Hilarious. Praying for your family Iman
I'll always remember Fred's take on telephone services. When Don asked him which one he used, Fred responded he used AT&T. When Don asked why, Fred said, "Because when I want to make a call, I pick up the phone and the call goes through." That was the essence of Fred and his great life lesson. Distill things down to the bottom line - and you'll never go wrong.
i was very saddened to hear about fred's passing. i always enjoyed hearing him on your show. he was the kind of person i always turn to, down to earth and never put on airs. i will miss him very much. you will never find another guest like him. God Bless Your Fred
Sorry about Fred. I am a long time listener from Salisbury , Md. Wrote also to support you when you were fired. Flo Wootten
Mr. Imus:
Please accept my sincere sympathies on Fred's passing. As you stated many times, he felt like a member of the family -- the "crazy" relative every loved. How ironic that on the Saturday of his passing, I was thinking of him and hoping he would be on your show again soon. We will all miss dear Fred.
Wyatt, you are so fortunate to have an Uncle like Fred and to be old enough to remember how wonderful a man he is. Someone like him comes along only once in a lifetime.
The Imus Family is in my prayers.
ps: Please also remember the people who found Fred and who had to make that awful call to you. Having experience in finding and calling, it is always a life-altering event.
Dear Mr. Imus
Long time listener. I was very sad hearing about Fred. I always loved when he would call in and add to your program. His Monday and Friday appearances during football season years ago were always great. Perhaps my favorite memory was when he accused the First Lady of murder in the death of Vince Foster. I believe he said "wasn't old Foster laid out there in the park like King Tut?" Your brother was an American original. My sincere condolences to you and your family.
My four year old grandson told me that "when someone dies, his heart breaks open and all that love goes somewhere else". I hope Fred's love will help to patch
up your heart as you grieve at his passing.
I was shocked and saddened when I heard of Fred's death. My first thought was of Don, and of how devastating a blow this must have been. My thoughts and sympathies remain with everyone who loved Fred and will personally feel the void his loss leaves behind. I cannot even contemplate the impact of the death of a brother. Words ring hollow, but the sympathy is genuine.

To Don Imus and Family - our condolences on your loss. All siblings should be blessed with the closeness that the two of you seemed to have over so many decades. Keep up the good work with the ranch!
You both kept me company for several years while I commuted from Brooklyn to work in Westchester.
My favorite story is Fred's losing melons, hunting high and low, then suggesting that they might be in with his laundry, as if that made perfect sense!
He is unforgettable, and the sweet love you shared for each other made my heart skip a beat.
I join others in letting the entire Imus family know you are in our prayers and for Fred's peaceful rest.
Sorry to hear of the passing of Fred Imus. Of all the guests that have appeared on the Imus show, Fred was the one that I had found to be most entertaining and looked forward to listening to. Down to earth person, who didn't hold back and spoke what was on his mind. Fred definately will be missed.
My prayers are with Fred and the whole Imus family.
I am another of the unwashed masses who tunes in to your show, almost as a guilty pleasure. Fred's appearances were always welcomed as much as a good friend showing up at your front door. No matter what he said, it was down to earth, sprinkled with country wit. It's like that bluegrass song about the old country store... a dying breed yet irreplaceable. Fred was family and we, the listeners, were privileged to be able to listen in while you both jabbed, cajoled, caught up... and as Mr. Cavuto said, ended with a simple "I love you". God Bless you and your family as you remember Fred and heal. RIP Fred Imus!
Dear Don,
I have become an avid listener of your show over the last few years and look forward to the long drive to my office. One of the highlights has always been when Fred appeared on your show. He always seemed very genuine and he was one of those wonderful characters that brings a smile to your face when you think of him and the way he projected his thoughts. I also appreciated the relationship you had with your brother.
God Bless
I had always thought how nice it would be to have such a wonderful relationship with a brother.
Hearing you 2 interact over the last 20 + years, has been an inspiration to me.
RIP Fred
I am sorry for the loss for the family. I started listening to Don Imus in 1983 when I got my first car. I love the show. Fred was always so whitty and funny. He will be missed and in my prayers.
IMUS,
Very sorry for your loss. I always looked forward to Fred's appearances on the program. He was great even when he had nothing for material. Always enjoyed the reactions of all of your gang to Fred.
What's with Charles?? Won't he call in?? I also enjoy Bill from White Plains. He should call more often.
Thanks for keeping the program going.
