Jason Mattera Serves as a Cautionary Tale of What Happens When a Satellite Feed is Lost
Likening an appearance on Imus in the Morning to visiting a funeral home was probably not the best way for 27-year old Jason Mattera, the editor of Human Events and brand new talk show host on WABC Radio, to kick things off today.
But in an act of karmic retribution, the television satellite dropped out just a few minutes later, and Mattera, who could not hear what Imus was saying, paid dearly. “Your hair looks stupid,” Imus said, adding, “We heard your radio program. It gave my ears cancer.”
Once the feed was restored, and it became evident that Mattera had no clue what Imus had said, the staunch Republican observed that President Obama trading his stadium rallies for backyard get-togethers is the result of young people not having the same number of “Ob-asms” that they had in 2008.
“They might have had funny feelings in their pants over Barack Obama a few years ago,” Mattera said of people under 30. “But when they can’t find jobs, when their health care premiums are going sky-high, and when we have the budget-busting deficits, they’re not going to be as enthusiastic.”
Unlike some of his right-wing counterparts, Mattera, the author of Obama Zombies, does not believe Obama is evil; he thinks the President is merely following a left-wing ideology he ardently believes is the best way to govern this country.
“He’s going to pursue a policy in the face of all evidence that it’s not working, and in the face of all history where we know that government spending never created wealth or led to prosperity of any nation, anywhere, at anytime,” Mattera said.
The people doing most of that spending—Congress—ended their 111th session yesterday without deciding whether to extend the Bush tax cuts, and also without passing a budget. “That’s why Americans are so riled up right now, and they can’t wait for next month to really kick out most of the Democratic leadership in Congress,” Mattera said.
If Congress raises taxes when it reconvenes, Mattera believes the top ten percent of income earners in this country, who already carry 70 percent of the tax burden, will be less inclined to invest in small businesses or the stock market, and that fewer jobs will be created.
“As we saw with President Reagan’s tax cuts in 1981, they unleashed the biggest growth of prosperity this country has ever seen in our history,” Mattera said. “So the formula is there, it’s just that Barack Obama is not abiding by that formula because of his deep-seated commitment to left-wing ideology.”
It would be one thing, Imus said, if Congress used money from higher taxes to pay off the national deficit. Instead, they use it to spend more, which is so obviously counterintuitive that even Imus picked up on it.
“It’s legalized plunder,” Mattera said, then graciously told Imus he’d “let” him be a guest on The Jason Mattera Show, which airs Sundays from 4-6pm on WABC Radio in New York.
Touched, Imus replied, “Jesus will be a guest on your show before I will.”
