Carl Jeffers Might Still Be Talking
Imus’s plan to get his cancer treatment and subsequent updates sponsored is one that Carl Jeffers, who is not a communist but writes for the Huffington Post, thinks will do well in this day and age.
“That’s a stimulus plan for someone, certainly,” he observed.
Jeffers thinks the “tea party” Tax Day rallies were successful because of all the promotion by Conservative talk radio and by FOX News, which has resurged since President Obama’s election.
“For the last two years, FOX has had sort of a disconnect with its own base — with the very far right Conservatives and Republicans,” said Jeffers. “Because the network was continuing to count the praises of George Bush, and the administration, and the war.”
Since this “base” was no longer in love with Bush or his policies, FOX had became somewhat irrelevant; that is, until Obama became enemy number one.
“For many far right conservatives and ideologically conservative Republicans, it’s like they can come home again to FOX,” Jeffers added. “FOX is either perceived as the loyal opposition or the non-loyal opposition — just as long as it’s opposition!”
But the liberal media is not without blame. Their seemingly overarching support of Obama has driven many people on both sides of the political spectrum over to FOX, a theory that was supported by a Pew Research Center poll from last fall.
“Liberals will listen to Conservatives, but Conservatives generally will not listen to Liberals on the air,” Jeffers pointed out. “Liberals feel they’re in control now, so they want to hear…how desperate [the other side] can be with their criticism.”
When he could squeak in a word during Jeffers’s four-minute rant, Imus observed that aside from shows like Glenn Beck or Hannity, FOX’s actual news reporting is far less biased than any of the big three networks. Jeffers said CNN does just good a job as FOX.
“They’re liberal, pigeon gut sucking weasels!” Imus said in disagreement.
Jeffers acknowledged that the tea party protests had been about the exorbitant amount of spending by the Obama administration, but he also believes protesters were motivated by what they see as the march to socialism in this country.
Our verbose but loveable guest went on for a few more minutes before Imus had to ding Warner’s bell in order to get Jeffers’s attention as time ran out. We’re still not sure whether he heard it.
