Imus Does Not Want To Be Pat O'Brien's Facebook Friend
For some reason, Pat O'Brien stopped by today to catch up with his pal Imus. The two have known each other for decades, but neither can recall much of what they've done together.
Speaking of drug abuse, Imus wondered what O'Brien thought of Andre Agassi's interview on 60 Minutes last night.
"I thought Andre was very forthcoming," said O'Brien, adding that as a sports commentator, he had covered Agassi's first and last matches at the U.S. Open. When Imus berated him for being self-absorbed, O'Brien criticized him right back.
"It adds to what I might have said about Andre Agassi," O'Brien explained. "Your follow up might have been, 'Did you know him when he had the long hair?' or, 'Did you know him when he was doing crystal meth?'"
So, did you?
"No, I did not," said O'Brien, who has publicly battled substance abuse. "I never did crystal meth. It's one that I missed, and you missed as well."
O'Brien left the entertainment news show The Insider about a year ago, and has since been "having fun," and working on his book.
"You're in three of the chapters," he told Imus, who would prefer otherwise. "You're in the 'Drugs and Alcohol' chapter. You're in the 'Friends I Know Who Have Never Invited Me to Their House' chapter. And I think you're in the 'Gay' chapter."
He then offered congratulations to the oft-preoccupied O'Brien for not checking his e-mail for an entire ten minutes. But it turns out some important breaking news had just come through on the O'Brien e-mail account.
"My band, Dale Gregory & The Shouters, we have just been invited to be inducted in the South Dakota Rock and Roll Hall of Fame," said O'Brien, to the sound of crickets chirping in the studio.
Imus really wants O'Brien's next gig to be in sports. "Nobody's better than you," he said.
O'Brien said one never knows where he'll show up. Right now, he said, he's working Facebook everyday, and had recently invited Imus to become his fan.
"You know what he wrote back?" O'Brien said. "I'd rather be in Al-Qaeda."
