Cheryl Casone Explains Business To Her Grandfathers
Imus gently explained to Fox Business Network anchor Cheryl Casone just what she had gotten herself into when she stepped on the set of Imus in the Morning today.
"Do you have a grandfather?" he asked Casone, who said she used to. "Well, you do again. Two of them. It's like you've gone to the home, and Charles and I are there. And it's a visit you have to make, but you're not sure you want to."
Armed with this context, Casone told Grandpas 1 and 2 that Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein and the Oracle of Omaha Warren Buffett were about to do some good work.
"They're teaming up to try to try to help small businesses out there," she reported. "It's $500 million, and they're going to educate and mentor small businesses, and it's a good thing, and it's probably a great PR move for Goldman Sachs."
Which is just what Lloyd Blankfart's company needs, according to Imus, because they take home absurd $100 million bonuses that they absolutely do not deserve. Buffett, he added, is okay, he's just reached a point where "it's not happening anymore." Case in point: he just purchased a railroad company.
"What, the Pony Express wasn't available?" Imus quipped, then admitted it might not have been a bad idea. "We thought it was an interesting joke. That's the only thing we got out of it."
Casone, a longtime business reporter, said she now looks more to what happens in Washington, DC as an indicator of each day's economic news than ever before.
"That seems to dictate everything that's happening here in New York and on Wall Street lately," said Casone, who feels more like a political expert as a result. "The government is now running every company in this country, it seems, and they've got their fingers in everything."
With the government now involved in the auto industry and gunning to get their hands on health care, Casone wondered: When does government involvement stop in American business? Do we want the congressmen and the senators out there to run American companies? Do we want them to come and run the Imus show?
Yes. Yes we do.
