Can Someone Please Tell Larry Miller What His Show is About?
In his bio, the actor and comedian Larry Miller is oddly described as “one of Hollywood’s most recognizable faces.” He’s also the host of the new Game Show Network show “Late Night Liars,” though he might be its least proficient spokesperson.
“Late Night Liars,” which debuts tonight at 11pm, features a panel of four “celebrity” puppets, all of which are creations of Henson Alternative, and are operated by improvisational actors. The puppets embody sassy, inappropriate, drunk personas, and two human contestants must distinguish the puppets’ lies from their truths. Whichever human does this best wins money and prizes.
Or something like that. It took a while for Miller to dispense this information, causing Imus to holler at his guest, “You’re doing a horrible job of explaining what this show’s about.”
In fact, at one point Imus was forced to say, “Answer the following question-yes or no—the contestants are real people?” (They are. We think. Again, it’s unclear.)
A big fan of game shows when he was a kid, Miller said, “It’s like a match game with puppets, which even as I say it out loud sounds idiotic. But we think it’s funny.”
Also funny, at least to Miller, is the fact that Eliot Spitzer and John Edwards have the same birthday. “We’re supposed to be the lunatics in the world—people in show business, people who write stories and entertain,” he told Imus. “But to me, the real lunatics of the world are anyone who wakes up in the morning, looks in the mirror and thinks, ‘Maybe I’ll lead! Yes! And once I’m leading, I’ll be the leader! And everyone will follow!’”
Miller remarked on how “cool” it was to see his old pal Rob Bartlett again after nearly 25 years, but was quickly called out by Imus for his insincerity. Being the show business pro that he is, Miller knew just how to reply when Rob and Tony asked him for help landing an acting gig.
“I said, ‘One second, I’ve got to go see Don,’” said Miller.
Watch “Late Night Liars,” Thursdays at 11pm on the Game Show Network, if for no other reason than to discover what it’s actually about.

Larry's long been one of my favorite standups. It's a shame Don didn't talk with him about issues of the day. A fill-in host for Dennis Miller, Larry's at his best making fun of the elite.
