Bo Dietl, Movie Maven
Playing the role of movie reviewer on Imus in the Morning today was Bo Dietl, a self-described “movie buff” these days.
“I picked 'Hurt Locker,' as best movie,” said Bo, obviously light years ahead of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. “It was hands down the best movie of the year, one of the best movies I ever saw.”
His cred thereby established, Bo panned the movie “Brooklyn’s Finest,” which he saw with 15-year old Little Bo this past weekend.
“All they do is show every cop being corrupt, every cop being murderers, drug dealers,” said Bo. “To me, it’s a disgrace.”
Though he retired 25 years ago, Bo still has “a camaraderie” with many cops on the force, and he’s sick and tired of seeing this false stereotype on the big screen. But Bo quickly forgot about his frustration with “Brooklyn’s Finest” after watching an independent film called “Lbs.”
“It’s not all rah-rah,” Bo said of the movie, in which an obese man is teased endlessly, loses 100 lbs and gets his life together, only to watch it fall apart all over again.
“It sounds like a really happy movie,” said Imus, who doesn’t look for such realism in his movies. “We want to see Jennifer Aniston and somebody having a happy time.”
Then, citing a statistic that was probably based on extensive polling and evidence and surveying and all that, Bo said, “Maybe about 40 percent of the kids in America grow up being teased by other people.”
And some, like Imus, do the teasing. Ain’t life unfair?
