Why Deirdre Imus Would Never Take Steroids, And Other Green Tales
A very complimentary I-Man told his wife Deirdre she looked very pretty this morning, which she did. He followed that up with, "But you're getting some miles on you, girl!"
Deirdre, who appeared on Fox News's "Hannity" program last night, was here today to talk about The Boriken Center, a health clinic in East Harlem trying desperately to raise the money it needs to build a brand new, state-of-the-art, 100 percent green facility.
"They started out with nothing," said Deirdre, who, along with her husband, donated $250,000 to Boriken. "They have well over $3 million now, and another $1 million promised. But they need at least $12 million."
The problem in obtaining funds is due to both a lack of federal funding, and to competition with other, bigger hospitals in the area, like North General.
"They all need help," said Deirdre. Harlem, she added, has one of the highest rates in the country of asthma, HIV, and diabetic amputees.
Imus expressed frustration that corporate bigwigs based in New York City opt to donate money internationally, if at all, instead of contributing to a worthy cause so close to home.
"Why not start here?" he wondered. "It's a marvelous facility run by marvelous people, like my good, close personal friend what's-her-name."
That would be Boriken's fearless leader Ellie Sanchez, who, along with her staff, had the vision years ago to build this environmentally friendly, revolutionary new clinic.
Speaking of all things green, there's a hot new feature on the Fox News Health website, run by Dr. Manny Alvarez, called "Green Your World with Deirdre Imus." Deirdre will provide tips on how to be healthy, stay healthy, and make your life just a little bit greener.
Imus was curious about the relationship between Dr. Manny, an Ob-Gyn, and his wife. Had the good doctor ever offered Deirdre a free examination, the I-Man wondered.
"I never asked him," she said. "But I'm sure he would."
So, for the record, would Bernard and Charles.
Deirdre is so healthy that as a runner at Villanova University, she never once considered using steroids to improve performance, as Mark McGuire admitted he did in baseball.
"I'm just too conscious of what I put in my mouth," she said. "And what I inject in my body."
Clearly not conscious enough.
